Here’s how one Israeli executive pivoted to make more of a difference in the world | Yael Lavie

1st November, 2026

Each spring, Jewish families worldwide sit down for their Passover Seders. A highlight of the event is reading the Four Questions. Against the backdrop of recent challenges, including the aftermath of the October 7 Hamas massacre and economic uncertainties marked by rising inflation and interest rates, there are signs of optimism in the Israeli high-tech sector. We reached out to leaders in this industry, asking them our own four questions, allowing them to reflect on their challenges, decisions, successes and dreams. Here are responses from Yael Lavie, chairperson of North High Tech Park and the Moshal Program:

Overcoming challenges after October 7

In the aftermath of October 7 and the Gaza War, what recent challenges have you faced in your industry, and how did you overcome them?

Following the events of October 7, it became apparent that cultivating hope and nurturing aspirations for a brighter tomorrow are key. Our primary challenge for the Moshal Program in Israel was expansion, especially in the southern regions severely impacted by the conflict.

We established a new Moshal chapter at Sapir College in the south, becoming a beacon of hope for students in the area who wish to continue pursuing their dreams, regardless of the turmoil around them. This new chapter is a testament to our belief that education and opportunity should remain accessible, even in times of conflict.

A decision that made a significant difference

What was one of the most important decisions you’ve made in the past year that had a significant impact on your work or career?

One of the most impactful decisions I made was transitioning from the corporate world to focus entirely on increasing socioeconomic mobility and expanding the high-tech industry in Israel’s periphery. I decided to dedicate my professional life to roles that would have a more meaningful societal impact.

This shift led me to my current positions at North High Tech Park and the Moshal Program. It was a decision driven by my belief in the transformative power of education and opportunity, and the importance of making high-tech accessible beyond the traditional centers of Tel Aviv.

Proudest achievement

What is an achievement from this past year that you are most proud of?

I am most proud of the continued growth and success of the Moshal Program. Seeing our scholars overcome significant personal and financial challenges to achieve their academic goals has been profoundly rewarding. Each scholar’s success story is not just a personal triumph; it represents a step toward greater socioeconomic equity in Israel.

Additionally, the expansion of North High Tech Park, attracting major companies like NVIDIA to our region, is a testament to the growing recognition of the potential in Israel’s northern periphery. This expansion is not just a business achievement but a step toward creating a more balanced and inclusive tech industry in Israel.

Dreams and aspirations for the future

What are your dreams and aspirations for the future of your industry or career?

My dream is to see a future where every talented individual in Israel, regardless of their socioeconomic background or geographic location, has the opportunity to contribute to and benefit from the thriving tech industry. I aspire to a world where the Moshal Program is no longer needed because the systemic barriers to education and opportunity have been dismantled.

I envision North High Tech Park as a thriving hub not just for established tech companies, but also as an incubator for local startups and entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds. I want to see a high-tech industry that truly reflects the diversity of Israeli society, driving innovation and growth that benefits all.
